Security cameras: detection, evasion, and system reset guide
You can disable them, hack them, or reset the entire security system â but until you do, you are going to have a bad time.
The Problem
âCameras keep spotting me and calling enemies. Can I disable them or do I just have to sneak?â
The Problem
Cameras keep spotting me and calling enemies. Can I disable them or do I just have to sneak?
The Solution
Security cameras in the GATE Facility are not background decoration. They detect your position and trigger enemy spawns â Order soldiers, security bots, or facility defense systems depending on the sector. Until the system is dealt with, cameras control the pace of every corridor you walk through.
How Cameras Work Each camera has a fixed scanning arc â it rotates back and forth across a set field of view. The detection cone is wider than you think. If the camera's "eye" (the lens) has line of sight to your character, you are detected within roughly one second. Detection triggers an alarm state: reinforcements are dispatched to the camera's location, and nearby security doors may lock. The alarm persists for a limited duration before resetting, but the enemies that spawned do not despawn.
Three Ways to Deal With Cameras
-
Sneak past. Study the camera's rotation pattern from behind cover. Every camera has a gap in its sweep â the moment it turns away from your intended path, move. Crouch-walking reduces the detection radius, though it does not eliminate it. If you must cross a camera's field of view, sprint through at the furthest point from the lens â distance reduces detection speed. Stay close to walls and use environmental cover (desks, crates, doorframes) to break line of sight.
-
Disable manually. Some cameras can be attacked or interacted with to disable them temporarily. This is noisy â it draws attention from nearby enemies â but eliminates the camera as a threat for that run. If you disable one camera in a cluster, the others continue scanning normally. Disable only the camera blocking your required path; leaving others functional avoids triggering a full sector lockdown.
-
Reset the Security System. This is a main story objective in the Security Sector. Completing it permanently changes how cameras behave across the facility â they become far less aggressive, and many previously locked containment cells and security doors open. This is the long-term solution. Until you reach this point in the story, cameras are a threat you manage room by room.
Keypad Hackers Security doors controlled by camera systems require Keypad Hackers to bypass:
- Tier 1: Basic security doors in Office Sector.
- Tier 2: Mid-tier doors in Manufacturing and early Labs.
- Tier 3: High-security doors in deep Labs and Containment.
Carry a Keypad Hacker when exploring new sectors. A locked security door with no hacker means you either backtrack to craft one or miss whatever is behind it. Higher-tier hackers require rarer materials â do not waste a Tier 3 hacker on a Tier 1 door you could have opened with the basic model.
Camera Sectors to Watch
- Office Sector: Cameras are sparse. Good place to practice timing and crouch-walk patterns with low consequences.
- Manufacturing West: Camera density increases. Multiple overlapping fields of view in the main production floor â do not assume one camera means one threat; check for secondary cameras covering the same area.
- Labs / Containment: Cameras plus radiation plus tougher enemies. Do not tunnel-vision on the camera sweep and walk into a radiation zone or enemy patrol.
Step-by-Step
- When entering a new room, pause at the doorway and identify every camera's position and sweep arc before stepping in.
- Time your movement to the gap in the camera's rotation. Crouch-walk to reduce detection radius.
- If a camera blocks the only path, disable it manually â but check for nearby enemies first; disabling is noisy.
- Carry a Keypad Hacker of the appropriate tier when exploring new sectors. Craft higher tiers before pushing into Labs or Containment.
- Prioritize the Security System Reset main story objective in the Security Sector â it permanently reduces camera threat across the entire facility.
- Do not fight enemies in a camera's active field of view â reinforcements will arrive while you are already engaged.
Common Mistakes
- Sprinting past a camera at close range assuming it will not detect you in time â it will. Distance and cover are your real protection.
- Disabling a camera and immediately running forward without checking for the second camera covering the same corridor.
- Entering Labs or Containment without a Keypad Hacker of the appropriate tier â backtracking through camera-patrolled corridors to craft one wastes time and health.
- Fighting enemies directly under an active camera â reinforcements spawn on top of an already-in-progress fight.
