Skill Perk Planner

Choose a current level and target level to calculate the remaining cumulative XP and review the confirmed perk milestones between them. The result stays separate from estimates about grinding time.

Target cumulative XP

13,950

Remaining XP

11,486

Starting-point method

Start of current level

Confirmed training actions

  • Move while Heavy Load, Encumbered, or Weighed Down is active.
  • Use a Bench Press until Lactic Acid (Arms) pauses bench XP.
  • Shake vending machines where doing so does not destroy a needed resource.

Perks crossed

  • Level 8 Heavy WeaponsUse heavy melee weapons properly.
  • Level 10 Nerd RageBleeding near a hostile enemy improves melee attacks.

What this planner answers

Abiotic Factor uses one cumulative XP threshold table for every skill. That makes the arithmetic simple, but the in-game skill screen still leaves a planning question: how much XP separates the level you have from the perk you want? This planner subtracts a known starting total from the cumulative requirement for the selected target. It then checks the selected skill and lists only the perk levels crossed in that range. The result is useful when deciding whether a normal expedition can serve two purposes, such as collecting resources while also moving toward a Crafting, Strength, or combat milestone.

The formula

Remaining XP equals the target level's cumulative XP minus your current total XP, with the result never shown below zero. If you leave current total XP blank, the planner uses the minimum cumulative XP needed to have reached your selected current level. That is a conservative starting point: it assumes no progress has been made inside the current level. Entering the total shown on the skill screen produces a more exact result. Perks at or below the current level are excluded because they are already reached; perks above the target are excluded because they are outside the plan.

Worked example

Level 5 requires 2,464 cumulative XP and level 10 requires 13,950. A player who selects level 5, targets level 10, and leaves the optional total blank receives 11,486 remaining XP: 13,950 minus 2,464. For Strength, the crossed milestone list contains Heavy Weapons at level 8 and Nerd Rage at level 10. Step Aside at level 5 is not included because the selected starting level has already reached it. If the player enters a current total above 2,464, the tool subtracts that actual total instead and the remaining amount falls accordingly.

Turn the number into useful play

The action list under the result is intentionally short. It names the actions documented as granting XP, not a fabricated fastest route. Prefer actions that also solve a current base or expedition need. Carrying useful salvage can advance Strength, necessary repairs can advance Crafting, and tending a real food plot can advance Agriculture. Combat skills should be advanced through fights the route already requires rather than by taking avoidable damage or wasting ammunition. Once the next useful perk is reached, reassess the plan instead of continuing a repetitive loop without a gameplay outcome.

What this planner does not calculate

The tool does not calculate time-to-level, XP per minute, an optimal grind, or the number of attacks, crafts, repairs, crops, or travel intervals required. XP gains depend on the action and can be changed by traits, food, equipment, cooperative play, and patches. Some exercise equipment also pauses its XP contribution after applying a Lactic Acid status. Treat the remaining-XP number as a verified distance between thresholds, not as a promise about how long a session will take. The tool also omits a skill when its current source details are not complete enough for the same review standard.

Source scope

Thresholds, skill actions, and perk levels were checked against the community-maintained Skills article for game version 1.4. The Jobs and Traits articles are linked because starting choices can alter skill levels or XP behavior, even though this calculator does not apply those modifiers. Before relying on a milestone after a major patch, compare the level and perk name with the current in-game skill screen. If the source and the game disagree, use the game value and report the mismatch rather than adjusting the calculator from memory.
