Storage Capacity Planner
Count current container capacity, reserve genuinely 100% shielded slots for radioactive items, and turn both deficits into a concrete crate addition.
Current total slots
138
Current 100% shielded
30
Total slot shortfall
12
100% shielding shortfall
20
Capacity-first addition
Add 1 Hazard Crate(s) for the fully shielded deficit, then 0 Storage Crate(s) (Large) for any total-capacity deficit that remains. Projected capacity: 168 total and 60 fully shielded slots.
How the planner calculates
Each entered crate contributes its documented slot count. Only containers listed at 100% radiation shielding contribute to the fully shielded result; partial percentages are not added together or treated as equivalent protection.
The suggested addition fills the shielded deficit with Hazard Crates first, because each has 30 slots and 100% shielding. It then fills any remaining total-capacity deficit with 42-slot Storage Crates (Large). The result is capacity-first and does not compare recipes, floor area, or progression cost.
Worked example
The default base has two small crates, one medium crate, one large crate, and one Hazard Crate. That is 138 total slots, including 30 fully shielded slots. Against targets of 150 total and 50 fully shielded slots, one more Hazard Crate covers both deficits and produces 168 total slots with 60 fully shielded slots.
What this planner does not calculate
- It does not claim that two partially shielded crates equal one fully shielded crate.
- It does not optimize crafting materials, crate footprint, food storage, shared Void Chest inventory, or progression unlocks.
- It does not decide which radioactive items belong together; use the companion organization guide for zoning and labels.
Version and sources
Container capacities and shielding values were checked for game version 1.4 against the current Storage reference. Recheck after a balance or storage update.
