The Problem

I walked past the Blacksmith three times before I realized he was a trader. Then I had no idea what to bring him. I wasted rare materials because nobody tells you what he actually accepts.

The Blacksmith is the most important trader in Abiotic Factor. He accepts 11 specific items and gives you items you literally cannot get any other way — including the Optic Lens (required for story progression) and the Heat Suit (required for the Tarasque boss). Here is every trade he offers.

Blacksmith Location

Sector: Manufacturing West Building: The Forge

The Forge is a large warehouse near the center of Manufacturing West. You cannot miss it once you know what to look for:

A massive pot of boiling solder inside — visible from the corridor
A wooden trading box on the floor in front of him
The building is on the main factory floor, on the right side as you enter from the Tram

Fastest route: Tram to Manufacturing West → exit tram → follow main corridor east → The Forge is on the right. You will see the solder glow through the doorway.

Tip: Build your mid-game base at the top of the F.O.R.G.E. — it is 10 seconds from the Blacksmith. You will visit him dozens of times.

How Trading Works

Stand in front of the wooden trading box.
Open your inventory.
Drop the requested item into the box — not on the floor, not at the Blacksmith's feet. Into the box.
The Blacksmith processes the trade and the new item appears in the box.
Pick up your item.

Trades are 1:1 unless noted. All input items are renewable through Portal World respawns or enemy farming.

Axle Grease	Capacitor	Quest item. Trade-only.

Environmental Protection

Air Compressor	Heat Suit (Fire Proximity Suit)	+3 Heat Resistance. Required for Tarasque boss fight and Mycofields portal world. Trade-only — cannot be crafted or found. This is the single most important trade in the game.

Security Bot CPU	Anvil	Anvils scrap into large amounts of metal. Security Bot CPUs are farmable from Security Bots at night.
Scrap Metal	Cement Bag	Cement for barricades. Scrap Metal is everywhere — this is an infinite cement loop.
Anomaly (anomalous material)	Rebar	Anomalies spawn nightly at 1 AM. Rebar is used for ammo and advanced crafting.

Farm ingredients → Craft Air Compressor → Trade to Blacksmith → Receive Heat Suit → Survive Tarasque/Mycofields

Downside of Heat Suit: "Stuffy Suit" debuff — +20% thirst drain, -10% movement speed. Compensate with a filled Water Bottle in hotbar.

Common Mistakes

Missing the Air Compressor trade entirely	The Heat Suit is trade-only. If you arrive at Tarasque without it, you backtrack to Manufacturing West.
Not stocking up on Optic Lenses	You need 5-9 Optic Lenses across a playthrough. Trade multiple Reinforced Hoses in one visit.
