The Blacksmith and Warren trade priority guide

Choose between verified Warren Bunning and Blacksmith exchanges by the next objective, unlock state, replacement cost, and route timing.

Prioritize an objective, not a trader

Warren Bunning and The Blacksmith are useful because their locations are fixed, but “buy everything available” is not a useful plan. Every exchange consumes an item that may have another purpose. Choose the output that removes the next progression, repair, crafting, or supply bottleneck.

Write the next objective first. Then sort candidate trades into three groups:

PriorityMeaningAction
Required nowOutput directly enables or repairs the next objectiveReserve the exact input
Useful soonOutput supports a confirmed upcoming routeTrade only after required inputs are protected
OptionalOutput has no assigned use in the current planKeep the input until a use exists

This method intentionally avoids a universal tier list. A GATE Security Key can be essential for one objective and irrelevant after the required access is handled. A material exchange can be valuable when it completes a named recipe and wasteful when it merely moves clutter between containers.

Use Warren for targeted progression and supply gaps

The official table places Warren in the Office Sector. His reviewed listings include the GATE Security Key for a Nyxshade Seed, Magnetic Alloy for Night Essence, a Light Gun Repair Kit for a Computation Brick, Canned Peas for Rootbear, an Employee Locator for a Peccary Skull, and a Stapler for Raw Antefish Filet. Several rows have their own progression unlocks.

Do not treat this paragraph as proof that every row is currently visible in your save. The trader unlock matrix explains how to compare each row with current progression. Once the row is visible, ask what the output solves.

Warren outputDecision question before trading
GATE Security KeyIs this key assigned to a current access objective?
Magnetic AlloyDoes a named craft or route need it now?
Light Gun Repair KitIs a compatible weapon blocked by repair needs?
Canned PeasIs food supply the current route constraint?
Employee LocatorDoes the group have an immediate locator task?
StaplerIs the component needed for a confirmed recipe?

The decision column is editorial. It does not change the official exchange pair. Its purpose is to make the player name the output's use before surrendering the input.

Use The Blacksmith as a material-conversion checkpoint

The Blacksmith's reviewed table includes material and equipment conversions: Optic Lens for Reinforced Hose, Diode for Axle Grease, Fibre Optic Cable for Solder, Fire Proximity Suit for Air Compressor, Cement Bag for Metal Scrap, Anvil for Security Bot CPU, Steel Cable for Military Electronics, Hydrochloric Acid for Anteverse Wheat, Rebar for Anomaly, Welding Mask for Order Helmet, and Blacksmithing Gloves for a Captain's Beret.

Because several inputs can be expensive to replace or useful elsewhere, assign the output before making the trade. “It is in the menu” is not a reason to convert a Security Bot CPU, Anomaly, or equipment piece.

Use a three-part check:

  1. Recipe check: name the craft or base task that needs the output.
  2. Input check: verify the input is not reserved for another confirmed task.
  3. Route check: confirm the output saves more route work than keeping the original item.

If any part is unknown, mark the trade optional and leave the input in storage.

Compare opportunity cost explicitly

Opportunity cost is the best reason to keep the two trader lists separate from a simple calculator. The calculator can multiply quantities, but it cannot know that the group's only Security Bot CPU is reserved for another purpose or that the next objective has no use for an Anvil.

Create one row per candidate:

CandidateImmediate output useOther use for inputReplacement routeDecision
Warren exchangeNamed access, repair, food, or component taskRecord known competing useRecord where the input comes fromRequired, soon, or optional
Blacksmith exchangeNamed craft, protection, or construction taskRecord known competing useRecord known recovery routeRequired, soon, or optional

Do not invent a farming time to force a numerical score. If the source does not publish a stable acquisition rate, describe the replacement route and current inventory instead. A qualitative constraint that can be checked is better than a precise-looking estimate with no evidence.

Plan a combined fixed-trader route

Fixed locations make these exchanges suitable for a deliberate route rather than a trader search. Prepare the exact stacks at base and separate them by NPC. Use the Trader Exchange Planner to calculate the number of actions, required input, and expected output for reviewed rows.

  1. Confirm every desired row is unlocked in the current save.
  2. Calculate each exchange independently; do not combine unlike input units.
  3. Put required trades ahead of optional ones in the checklist.
  4. Reserve enough output slots, including cases where one action returns several units.
  5. Visit the fixed destination already closest to the next objective rather than making a separate trip only because the inventory is ready.
  6. Re-check the live trade screen before surrendering a scarce item.

The route order is a planning choice. The official sources establish location and exchange facts; current access, base position, and objective decide which visit comes first.

Handle unlock and source disagreements

If a reviewed exchange is missing, confirm the exact progression condition on the current Trading page and compare it with the save. Do not replace the unlock with a guessed earlier event. If the trade screen and source disagree after a patch, preserve the input and report the discrepancy rather than publishing a new cost from memory.

If an item name has changed, verify both the trader-specific page and the item page before editing a public table. Similar material names can represent different objects. The site should prefer an acknowledged gap over a convenient substitution.

Decide when to keep the input

Keep the input when the output has no current task, the row is not unlocked, the input is the last copy of a route-critical material, or the source and live screen disagree. Also keep it when the trade only saves storage space; moving value between item types is not automatically progress.

Trade when the output removes a named blocker, the input's competing uses are protected, and the return route is ready. For repeat exchanges, compare the action count with any stock shown in the current interface or source.

Completion condition

A fixed-trader plan is ready when each selected exchange has a named objective, verified unlock, exact input total, reserved output space, and a documented reason the input is less useful than the output right now. The plan is complete after the live trade screen matches the checklist and the returned items are assigned to the objective or storage category named before departure.

Re-run the decision after updates that change progression or recipes. Source facts can be refreshed without discarding the framework: objective first, opportunity cost second, route third, and exchange only after all three agree.

Exchange pairs and unlock conditions are checked against the official community wiki Trading, Warren Bunning, and The Blacksmith pages. Priority rules are editorial and depend on the player's current objective.
