How the digital plot differs

The Digital Garden Plot uses specialized cartridges and requires constant power. Unlike a normal Garden Plot, it does not require watering. The official 1.4 update notes confirm outputs such as Royal Peppers, a tamed IS-0307-A, and bullets for conventional firearms through matching cartridges.

This page treats the plot as a production machine. The question is not merely where to place it, but which output deserves continuous power.

Setup and cycle

  1. Place the plot on a circuit whose baseline load is already understood.
  2. Craft or select the cartridge for one named output.
  3. Insert the cartridge and verify continuous power.
  4. Apply a documented fertilizer only when faster output matters more than the fertilizer's alternative use.
  5. Harvest the finished crop and confirm whether the selected cartridge begins another cycle.
  6. Move output to storage before the next harvest.

The source page currently describes a growth period of about two in-game days and notes that most digital crops restart after harvest. Treat that timing as patch-sensitive and verify it against the current page after updates.

Build requirements before production

The current crafting page lists three interchangeable arcade-machine inputs: DETOUR, The Dead Linger, or Unfortunate Spacemen. One of those machines is used with the same supporting materials.

The finished plot weighs 5 and is crafted at a Crafting Bench. Record which arcade machine the base can spare before collecting the remaining ingredients. This prevents a shopping list from turning into an unnecessary hunt for one specific cabinet when any listed variant satisfies the recipe.

Fertilizer decision

The plot accepts Reservoir Growth and Black Gunk as fertilizer. The source lists their approximate growth-speed increases as 33% and 27%, respectively. Those percentages describe speed, not additional harvest quantity, so do not multiply the expected output count by them.

Start without fertilizer for one complete cycle. That establishes whether the cartridge, power, harvest handling, and demand are correct before another scarce input is committed.

Power and capacity decisions

Do not connect the plot to a circuit that is already close to failure during night operation or base defense. If production is optional, isolate it so a power interruption does not disable refrigerators, protection, or route lighting. One reliable plot is more useful than several machines that compete with critical systems.

Failure recovery

  • Nothing grows. Check the cartridge and continuous power before replacing the plot.
  • The wrong output is queued. Stop the cycle and review the cartridge list; similar names should not be inferred.
  • Base power becomes unstable. Disconnect production and restore critical systems first.
  • Harvests accumulate. Reduce active cycles or expand the dedicated output storage rather than scattering items.

Completion condition

Choose outputs by replacement cost

A cartridge is valuable when its output replaces a recurring route, a scarce combat supply, or a food ingredient the group uses regularly. List the desired weekly output and the alternative way to obtain it. If the normal route is safe and produces several other needed materials, digital production may not deserve priority. If the route exists only to restock one consumable, the plot can free time for progression.

The official update notes identify categories of available cartridges, but the current recipe list should be checked in-game before a production promise is made. Do not infer that every ammunition or food type has a cartridge because a similar item does. Record the exact cartridge name and its confirmed result.

Protect critical power

Measure the base circuit during its busiest state: refrigeration active, lighting on, and defenses available. Then add the plot. If optional production causes instability, move it to a separate circuit or schedule it when the critical load is lower. The plot's continuous-power requirement makes a stable smaller operation better than a nominally faster setup that repeatedly stops.

Harvest handling is part of capacity. Ammunition should move to the combat resupply zone, food to the correct storage, and special outputs to their planned owner. If output sits beside the plot, production has shifted the bottleneck from acquisition to sorting. Reduce the number of active cycles until storage and consumption can keep up.

After several harvests, review power interruptions, fertilizer use, unused output, and routes avoided. Keep the cartridge only when it continues to solve the named supply problem.

Record one complete production cycle

Use the in-game watch rather than estimating from real-world minutes. At the start of a fresh cycle, record the day and time, cartridge name, fertilizer, and whether the circuit stayed powered. At harvest, record the completion time and where the output went.

Commission one cartridge before expanding the production line. Confirm the exact output against the current plot interface, route it to the intended storage, and observe whether the base circuit remains stable through a complete cycle. This test isolates the cartridge from later capacity decisions.

Expansion is justified when the output is consumed, the avoided route remains costly, and power has spare capacity. If harvested items accumulate unused, pause that cartridge rather than adding storage to disguise overproduction.
