Leyak Phantom and X-Ray Lamp: safe response, tower coverage, and containment

Handle Leyak pressure without confusing it with Nocturnal Anomaly farming. Covers X-Ray Lamp response, X-Ray Tower placement, Leyak Essence pickup, and Containment Unit: 91 planning.

What this page is about

This guide is for Leyak pressure and X-Ray response. It is not a Nocturnal Anomaly capture route and it is not a general Night Realm farming page. If you need Test Tubes, Anomaly material, or plant-food crafting, use the Anomaly capture guide.

The Leyak problem is different: it interrupts travel and base work until the player has a dependable X-Ray answer. A good route solves three questions before the encounter happens:

  1. Where is the X-Ray Lamp in your inventory?
  2. Which base area has X-Ray Tower coverage?
  3. Are you farming Leyak Essence, escaping pressure, or setting up containment?

Confirmed response tools

ToolConfirmed useBest practical role
X-Ray LampStops the Leyak and can produce Leyak EssencePortable response during exploration
X-Ray TowerFixed X-Ray coverage for Leyak pressure near the towerBase or staging-room protection
Leyak EssenceDrops from successful X-Ray handling of the LeyakResource pickup after the threat is controlled
Containment Unit: 91Can contain the Leyak when the Leyak is drawn near and hit with the correct X-Ray responsePlanned long-term control

Do not treat the X-Ray Lamp like a normal weapon. Its job is not damage routing or enemy clearing. Its job is to stop the Leyak encounter cleanly enough that you can either continue the route, collect essence, or reset safely.

Field response workflow

Use this sequence any time Leyak pressure is active away from base:

  1. Put the X-Ray Lamp on a consistent hotbar slot before leaving.
  2. Keep one clear retreat line instead of running deeper into unknown rooms.
  3. When the Leyak appears, stop sprinting blindly and face the threat.
  4. Use the X-Ray Lamp long enough to force the response.
  5. Confirm the area is safe before checking for Leyak Essence.
  6. Leave or continue only after the original route objective is still viable.

The main failure is not lacking the correct item. It is carrying the correct item in a place where you cannot reach it during the encounter.

Lamp, tower, or containment?

SituationUse this responseWhy
You are looting far from baseX-Ray LampPortable control is the only response you can carry
The Leyak interrupts crafting or crate sortingX-Ray TowerFixed coverage protects the place where you stand still
You need one more Leyak Essence for a craftX-Ray Lamp first, tower if at baseBoth can create a safe pickup window
The same base area keeps getting interruptedReposition X-Ray TowerThe protected zone is in the wrong place
You want long-term controlContainment Unit: 91 setupContainment is a planned encounter, not an emergency reaction

This choice matters because each tool solves a different risk. A tower does not help while you are deep in a sector. A lamp in storage does not protect a crafting bench. A containment unit does not replace the first portable response.

Base coverage checklist

Place X-Ray Tower coverage around behavior, not decoration. The best tower locations are places where players pause:

  • Crafting Bench and repair stations.
  • Labeled high-value storage.
  • Co-op regroup points before a route.
  • A staging room used before Security, Cascade, or Night Realm trips.

Avoid placing the tower only at the outer edge of a base because it "looks like" a perimeter defense. The Leyak is not the same problem as a physical raid. Put X-Ray coverage where interruption costs time or materials.

Leyak Essence pickup rules

Leyak Essence is useful, but it should not turn every encounter into a risky chase. Use these stop conditions:

ConditionDecision
You need essence for a current craftCollect it if the area is clear
You are carrying progression lootBank the route first; do not extend for a bonus drop
Another enemy is active nearbyControl the room before checking the floor
Your lamp or armor durability is lowLeave and reset instead of forcing another encounter
Co-op teammate called a retreatTreat retreat as the objective; collect later

The resource is repeatable through correct X-Ray handling. Losing a full route for one extra pickup is usually worse than returning prepared.

Containment Unit: 91 planning

Containment is a separate objective. Before attempting it, confirm:

CheckPass condition
SpaceThe Leyak can approach the unit area without trapping the player
X-Ray sourceLamp or tower is ready before drawing the Leyak in
Escape routeThe player can leave if the first attempt fails
InventoryProgression loot and rare materials are already stored
Team roleIn co-op, one player is responsible for the X-Ray response

Do not attempt containment in a cluttered storage corner. Clear a staging space first, then treat the encounter like a setup task rather than a panic check.

Common mistakes

MistakeWhy it failsCorrection
Confusing Leyak with Nocturnal AnomalyThey use different materials and routesUse this page for Leyak; use Anomaly capture for Test Tube routes
Carrying the lamp in general inventoryYou cannot reach it fast enoughAssign one hotbar slot and keep it consistent
Building only physical trapsTraps do not replace X-Ray coverageAdd X-Ray Tower coverage to work areas
Farming essence during a bad routeThe bonus pickup can cost the main objectiveBank progression loot first
Starting containment without spaceThe setup becomes more dangerous than the LeyakClear the unit area before the attempt
