Leyak phantoms: X-Ray Lamp defense and base protection

Leyaks are why your base feels unsafe at night. X-Ray Lamps and good lighting are the solution, not brute force.

The Problem

“Something keeps attacking me at night in my own base and my weapons do nothing to it.”

⚡ Before You Start

Craft or find an X-Ray Lamp
Secure your base lighting before nightfall
Understand that Leyak cannot be killed — only driven back

🎒 What to Bring

■X-Ray Lamp (primary defense)
■Energy Pistol (backup option, consumes ammo)
■Well-lit base with no dark corners near your bed

Prerequisites

  • Craft or find an X-Ray Lamp
  • Secure your base lighting before nightfall
  • Understand that Leyak cannot be killed — only driven back

Recommended Loadout

  • X-Ray Lamp (primary defense)
  • Energy Pistol (backup option, consumes ammo)
  • Well-lit base with no dark corners near your bed

Common Mistakes

  • 1.Trying to kill the Leyak with standard weapons — it is immune to physical damage.
  • 2.Leaving dark spots near your bed where the Leyak phase-shifts through.
  • 3.Ignoring Phantom pressure as a warning indicator before the Leyak appears.

The Problem

Something keeps attacking me at night in my own base and my weapons do nothing to it.

The Solution

The IS-0059 Reaper — universally called the Leyak — is the reason your base stops feeling safe after dark. It is not bugged. Your weapons are not broken. It is simply immune to standard damage. Here is how to live with it.

What the Leyak Is The Leyak is a black-cloaked, scythe-wielding phantom entity that appears when Phantom pressure is high. It is not a standard enemy — it phase-shifts through walls, ignores conventional weapons, and cannot be permanently killed. Your goal is not to destroy it. Your goal is to drive it back and survive the night.

How Phantom Pressure Works Phantom pressure builds over time as an invisible stat. When it crosses a threshold, the Leyak manifests — usually near your current position. The pressure is highest at night and in sectors with containment breaches (Labs, Containment Block). Staying in well-lit areas reduces pressure buildup. Lingering in dark corners accelerates it. If you feel safe in a pitch-black room, you are about to learn why you should not.

X-Ray Lamp — Your Primary Defense The X-Ray Lamp is the dedicated Leyak counter. When the Leyak manifests near you, activate the lamp. It forces the Leyak to drop Night Essence and retreat without requiring combat. Key facts:

  • Does not consume ammo. Uses charge like any powered device.
  • Works at close to medium range — you do not need to be in melee distance.
  • The Leyak retreats temporarily after being hit by the lamp. It will return later in the night if Phantom pressure remains high.
  • Carry the X-Ray Lamp on your hotbar during night hours. Do not leave it in storage.

Energy Pistol — Backup Option The Energy Pistol also damages the Leyak (1-3 shots to drive it off) but consumes ammo. Use it only when the X-Ray Lamp is out of charge or you are caught without it. The lamp is superior because it is ammo-free and forces the Night Essence drop without a kill. If you use the pistol, you are spending resources on a fight you cannot win — the Leyak always comes back.

Base Lighting Strategy Leyak phase-shifts through dark areas. A well-lit base with no dark corners near your bed, Crafting Bench (see Crafting Bench upgrades), and Healing Briefcase (see healing guide) is your passive defense. Specific measures:

  • Place wall lights covering every corner of your main base room.
  • Put a dedicated light directly above your bed — the Leyak targets sleeping players.
  • Use photosensitive switches to keep lights on automatically during night and off during day.
  • If a room has a dark spot you cannot light, wall it off or do not spend time in it at night.

Night Essence Collection When the X-Ray Lamp forces the Leyak to retreat, it drops Night Essence. This is a critical late-game material:

  • 10 Night Essence + 5 Leyak Essence + 1 Anteverse Wheat Seed + 1 Enethiol = Nyxshade Seed (trades for GATE Security Keys).
  • Leyak Essence is used in Carbon Battery crafting (350 charge). Treat Night Essence drops as a farming (see farming guide) opportunity — the Leyak is threatening, but the materials it drops are valuable. With a well-lit base and an X-Ray Lamp on the hotbar, Leyak encounters become routine material collection rather than panic events.

Step-by-Step

  1. Craft an X-Ray Lamp at your Crafting Bench. Keep it on your hotbar at all times during night hours.
  2. Light every corner of your base room. Place a dedicated light above your bed.
  3. Monitor Phantom pressure — if it feels high and you are in a dark area, move to your lit base immediately.
  4. When the Leyak manifests: equip X-Ray Lamp, activate near the entity, collect dropped Night Essence.
  5. If caught without the lamp: Energy Pistol (1-3 shots) as emergency backup. Then craft the lamp — this should not happen twice.
  6. Store Night Essence and Leyak Essence in a dedicated Anomaly Crate for Nyxshade Seed and Carbon Battery crafting.
  7. The Leyak always returns. This is normal. Repeat the lamp → collect → store cycle each night.

Common Mistakes

  • Trying to kill the Leyak with a Crowbar or Stun Baton — it is immune to physical damage. X-Ray Lamp or Energy Pistol only.
  • Leaving dark corners in your base room — the Leyak phase-shifts through darkness. Every corner needs a light.
  • Storing the X-Ray Lamp in a crate instead of on the hotbar — when the Leyak appears, you have seconds to react.
  • Panicking and burning through Medkits when the Leyak attacks — activate the lamp immediately. Healing comes after the Leyak retreats.
  • Ignoring Phantom pressure buildup during exploration — if pressure is high, head back to your lit base before nightfall.
