Healing and medical: medkits, briefcases, and radiation survival
Stop relying solely on wall medkits. The Healing Briefcase is the real workhorse, and sitting down nullifies radiation entirely.
The Problem
âI keep dying from random damage and cannot find enough healing. Where are all the medkits?â
⥠Before You Start
đ What to Bring
Prerequisites
- Find a Medkit on the wall to understand the healing baseline
- Locate or craft a Healing Briefcase
- Keep Bandages, Splints, and Antidotes in stock
Recommended Loadout
- Healing Briefcase (place near bed and Crafting Bench)
- Portable Recharger for Briefcase sustain
- Bandages, Splints, Antidotes for specific conditions
Common Mistakes
- 1.Running past the wall Medkit without grabbing it during early exploration
- 2.Carrying radioactive items without a Hazmat Suit and wondering why health drains
- 3.Forgetting that the Briefcase heals half of missing health per tick â it works faster the worse shape you are in
The Problem
I keep dying from random damage and cannot find enough healing. Where are all the medkits?
The Solution
Healing in Abiotic Factor is not about finding medkits â it is about building a healing infrastructure at your base that you return to between expeditions.
Wall Medkits â The Starter Heal Wall Medkits are found mounted on walls throughout the Office Sector and later areas. Each heals approximately 50 HP when used. They do not respawn â once you take one, it is gone from that location. This makes them a finite early-game resource. Treat wall Medkits as emergency pocket heals for exploration, not as your primary healing method. Mark medkit locations on your mental map so you can grab them when passing through.
Healing Briefcase â The Endgame Solution (Wiki Verified) The Healing Briefcase is the single most important medical item in the game. Verified stats from Abiotic Factor Wiki:
- Heal rate: 3 HP every 0.5 seconds (6 HP/second) in an area of effect.
- Battery capacity: 200 charge.
- Crafting: Briefcase + 8 Anteverse Wheat + 2 Solder + Fibre Optic Cable.
- Place next to your Bed and Crafting Bench (see Crafting Bench upgrades) for a "recovery hub."
- Connect a Portable Recharger for infinite healing â the Briefcase never runs out of charges.
- In co-op, one Briefcase heals all nearby players simultaneously.
Natural Healing Baseline Base regeneration: 5 HP every 5 seconds (from Wiki). Keeping food and water full causes slow passive health regen.
Condition-Specific Items (Wiki Verified)
- Healing Syringe (0.3 wt, stack 3): Restores HP over time by boosting natural regen. Crafted: Test Tube + Anteverse Wheat + Bio Scrap. Also found in wall Medkits.
- Bandage (0.25 wt, stack 16): Stops 1 instance of Bleeding. Does NOT restore HP. Small failure chance vs Severe Bleeding. Crafted: 1 Cloth Scrap.
- Tech Bandage (0.25 wt, stack 16): Removes ALL Bleeding and Severe Bleeding at once. Crafted: Military Electronics + Kevlar Scrap + Cloth Scrap + Honey/Fish Oil/Eel Fat/Robot Oil/Aloe.
- Splint (1.0 wt, stack 8): Heals broken/fractured/sprained limbs. Bone then heals slowly over time. Crafted: Bandage + Wood Plank + Duct Tape.
- Iodine Tablets (0.2 wt, stack 5): Removes -10 radiation and grants 50% radiation resistance for 15 minutes. Found in Medkits (not craftable).
- Pentetic Acid Syringe (0.3 wt, stack 3): Removes -10 radiation and grants 50% radiation resistance for 15 minutes. Crafted at First Aid level 4: Hydrochloric Acid + Enethiol + Salt + Metal Scrap.
- Gastro Medicine: Cures Borborygmus (upset stomach from bad food). Crafted: Plastic Scrap + Hydrochloric Acid + Honey.
Rise Portal Farming (see farming guide) The Rise portal world is the best renewable Medkit farm. Once you unlock access (solve or skip the laser puzzle), Medkits respawn every portal reset cycle. Run Rise when you need to restock.
The Sitting Trick Sitting on any surface nullifies ambient radiation entirely, including radiation from items in your inventory. Free, requires no items, works everywhere.
| Item | Weight | Stack | Effect | Craft |

Step-by-Step
- On day one, check every wall in the Office Sector for Medkits â the security room and infirmary are reliable spawns.
- Place a Healing Briefcase next to your bed at base â it heals 3 HP per half-second in an AOE and is the foundation of your healing setup.
- Connect the Briefcase to a Portable Recharger for infinite healing â without a Recharger, it will eventually drain.
- Craft at least 3 Bandages, 2 Splints, and 2 Antidotes. Store them in a dedicated Medical Crate next to your Briefcase.
- When exploring, carry 1 Medkit, 2 Bandages, and 1 Antidote as the minimum expedition loadout.
- Unlock the Rise portal and farm it periodically â it respawns Medkits every reset cycle.
- If carrying radioactive loot, sit down to nullify the radiation damage. Do not use Medkits to out-heal radiation â fix the cause first.
- In boss fights, use Painkillers before engaging to reduce incoming damage by a flat percentage.
Common Mistakes
- Running past wall Medkits during early exploration without grabbing them â they do not respawn and you will need them later.
- Carrying radioactive items without a Hazmat Suit (see armor guide) and wondering why health drains. The Hazmat Suit + sitting trick is the correct solution.
- Forgetting that the Briefcase heals half of missing health per tick â it works faster the worse shape you are. Do not panic and waste a Medkit when the Briefcase is already healing you.
- Not crafting Bandages early because "I have Medkits." Bleeding bypasses Medkit healing â you need Bandages specifically to stop it.
- Spending Medkits to top off minor damage at base when the Briefcase would have healed it for free in a few seconds.
