Vehicle comparison: repair items, cargo slots, seats, and route limits

Compare the Forklift, GATE Security Cart, GATE SUV, and Tram using documented capacity, passenger, activation, terrain, and recall facts.

Reject incompatible vehicles before an activation item or cargo is committed. Source basis: the references listed on this page, checked for game version 1.4. This original planning diagram is not to scale and is not copied game or wiki media.

Abiotic Factor has several ways to move people and items, but they do not solve the same transport problem. The Forklift has one seat and 24 cargo slots. The GATE Security Cart has four seats and 18 cargo slots. The GATE SUV has four seats and 30 cargo slots. The Tram has twelve seats and 18 cargo slots, but it runs only on predetermined lines.

Those numbers are useful only after availability is checked. A Forklift needs a Power Cell. A Security Cart needs a Hotwire Kit made for that cart. An SUV needs its own Hotwire Kit. A Tram does not use one of those activation items, but the relevant line and station must already be available. The best transport choice is therefore the vehicle that meets the current job and can actually be used in the current save.

Source-backed comparison table

VehicleSeatsCargo slotsActivation or access conditionMovement boundary
Forklift124Repair with a Power CellDrivable on suitable roads and ramps; vehicles cannot drive up stairs
GATE Security Cart418Repair with Hotwire Kit (Security Cart)Drivable away from fixed rails on suitable terrain
GATE SUV430Repair with Hotwire Kit (SUV)Drivable away from fixed rails on suitable terrain
Tram1218Use an available, activated tram connectionRestricted to predetermined tracks

The table does not score danger, fuel use, speed, or enemy pressure. The reviewed source supports the listed structural differences, but it does not turn every road between two landmarks into a guaranteed safe route.

Prerequisites for a transport decision

Write down the job before spending an activation item:

  1. Count the players who must ride in the same vehicle.
  2. Count the cargo slots that must arrive in one trip.
  3. Decide whether the destination lies on an available tram line.
  4. Confirm the required activation item is already crafted or collected.
  5. Walk the first road segment and identify stairs, narrow doors, and a place to unload.

The Vehicle Route Planner performs the first four compatibility checks. The fifth must be done in the current world because the planner cannot see doors, debris, enemies, or player-built objects.

Choose by the job, not the vehicle name

Solo cargo run

A solo player who needs more than 18 but no more than 24 cargo slots can compare the Forklift with the SUV. The Forklift meets the capacity with a Power Cell and does not reserve passenger seats that are unnecessary. The SUV carries six more slots, but requires a different Hotwire Kit and must be found in one of its listed areas.

Do not spend either item until the expected cargo exists. Repairing a vehicle because it is nearby can consume a progression material without removing an actual transport bottleneck.

Four-player movement

The Forklift cannot carry a four-player party because it has one seat. The Security Cart and SUV each list four seats. The Tram can carry more, but its track must connect the relevant points. For a four-player job with 19 or more cargo slots, the source-backed capacity leaves the SUV as the only reviewed four-seat option that meets both requirements in one vehicle.

That conclusion is compatibility, not a claim that the SUV is present, repaired, or safe to reach. Check its location and activation separately.

Fixed destination on a tram line

When the origin and destination share an activated line, the Tram avoids a repair item and carries twelve players plus 18 cargo slots. It can also be recalled to an activated station. The tradeoff is inflexibility: the Tram moves forward or backward on its track and cannot leave the line for a side objective.

Use the Tram for known station-to-station movement. Do not count it as the final vehicle when the cargo must continue along a road beyond the station.

Mixed road and interior route

The Vehicles reference states that vehicles can use ramps but cannot drive up stairs. That makes a handoff point part of the plan. Park before the first stair or unsuitable doorway, unload only the cargo needed inside, and leave room to turn or recall the vehicle later.

A vehicle does not remove the final carrying problem. It shortens the part of the route that supports wheels.

Activation items are not interchangeable

VehicleRequired itemImportant distinction
ForkliftPower CellThe cell activates the Forklift; do not describe it as a repeatedly consumed fuel supply without evidence
Security CartHotwire Kit (Security Cart)The SUV kit is a separate item and cannot be substituted in the planner
GATE SUVHotwire Kit (SUV)Its recipe and target vehicle differ from the cart kit
TramNone of the three items aboveAvailability depends on the fixed tram network and activated access

If the required item is missing, mark the vehicle unavailable. A future ability to craft it is not the same as having it ready before the route.

Cargo reservation worksheet

The capacity number is a maximum, not a recommendation to fill every slot. Use a small reserve so an unexpected objective item has somewhere to go.

Cargo purposePlanned slotsLoadedKeep or remove
Route equipmentPlayer decisionRecord before departureKeep only what supports the destination
Required deliveryPlayer decisionRecord before departureHighest priority
Return lootPlayer decisionLeave empty on departureProtect this allowance
Recovery marginAt least one planned spaceLeave emptyUse for an unexpected key item or split stack

The table intentionally does not assign universal slot quantities. Stack sizes and route objectives differ. What matters is that the sum remains at or below the documented vehicle capacity.

Vehicle locations and availability

The reviewed entries list Forklifts in Manufacturing West, Hydroplant, Dunkeltaler Forest, and Reactors; Security Carts in Cascade Laboratories, Security, and Reactors; and SUVs in Security, Hydroplant, Reactors, Residence, and Albatross. The facility transport planner limits its first dataset to the main sectors and does not treat portal-only vehicle access as interchangeable with facility hauling.

An area name proves only that the vehicle has a documented location there. It does not prove that the player has opened the area, cleared the road, or kept the vehicle at its original point.

Recall and stuck recovery

The Vehicles page describes fixed recall objects that return a vehicle to its designated spawn location. This is not a summon-to-player command. Trams can be recalled to an activated station, while drivable vehicles return according to their designated recall behavior.

Use this recovery order:

  1. Stop loading and remove any critical item you cannot risk.
  2. Try the documented push or righting interaction when the vehicle is only tipped or lightly stuck.
  3. Reverse to the last open road when the obstacle is a bad route choice.
  4. Use the relevant recall control when local recovery no longer works.
  5. Return to the documented spawn or station rather than waiting at the current position.

The sources do not give a universal guarantee for every cargo edge case during recall. Removing irreplaceable cargo before recall is an editorial safeguard, not a claim that recall always deletes stored items.

Risks and failure recovery

FailureRecovery
Too many passengersSplit the party or choose Security Cart, SUV, or Tram according to access
Cargo exceeds the listed capacityReduce the job, stage a second trip, or choose a higher-capacity compatible vehicle
Tram does not reach the destinationUse it for the station leg and establish a road or hand-carry transfer
Required Hotwire Kit or Power Cell is missingDelay activation; do not plan around a future craft as current inventory
Stairs block the routePark at a transfer point and carry the final segment
Vehicle has moved from the listed locationCheck the designated recall point and the current save state

Completion check

A transport plan is ready when seats and cargo fit, the activation condition is already met, the route boundary is understood, and the unloading point has been identified. It is complete after the priority cargo reaches storage and the vehicle remains in a recoverable location.

That result is more useful than a single vehicle ranking. It explains why an option works for this trip, and it makes every failed option visible before the player spends a repair item or loads valuable cargo.

Sources & References

Seat counts, cargo capacities, activation requirements, locations, fixed-track behavior, ramp and stair limits, and recall behavior were checked against the reviewed Vehicles, Forklift, GATE Security Cart, GATE SUV, and Tram pages. Selection and staging rules are editorial guidance.

Editorial contribution

Places four facility transport options in one comparable decision framework, explains why compatibility is not route safety, and adds preparation and recovery checks beyond the individual vehicle entries.
