The Deatomizer is a Science Ranged weapon with two laser firing modes. Its official wiki entry describes a lower-consumption blue laser and a higher-output red secondary mode. It uses laser charge rather than a conventional magazine and must be recharged with a Laser Collector after the stored charge is depleted.
The current source lists 15 damage, 130 laser capacity, 50 durability, weight 10, and a 10% durability-loss chance. Treat those as patch-sensitive item facts, not a universal damage-per-second ranking. The result against a target also depends on the target, mode, aim time, interruptions, and current game balance.
Compare the two firing modes
The source notes that the secondary mode triples both output and consumption. It reports roughly 4 laser charge consumed per second in normal mode and roughly 13 per second in secondary mode, which corresponds to about 32.5 seconds and 9.8 seconds of continuous firing from the listed 130 capacity.

Use secondary mode when a shorter exposure window matters and the player has a clear target, stable position, and an exit before the charge is committed.

Use the secondary action deliberately
The Deatomizer's secondary action switches firing mode. The red mode can also butcher creatures, although the source says it appears to produce worse results than a Kitchen Knife or another butchering tool. That makes butchering a documented capability, not an efficient default recommendation.

Swap to the named fallback before the Deatomizer is empty rather than during the most dangerous part of the encounter.
