Required operating chain
The Laser Turret does not operate from ordinary electrical connection alone. A beam from a Laser Emitter or Laser Prism must hit the crystal in the turret's base. The source also notes that one beam is sufficient; additional beams do not improve its function.

Commissioning procedure
- Choose the enemy approach before placing laser equipment.
- Set the turret where it can see that lane without exposing its base to easy contact.
- Place and power the Laser Emitter or configure the Prism path.
- Aim one beam at the base crystal and verify activation.
- Walk the likely enemy route and inspect both the power beam and firing line.
- Test with a controlled target while keeping a manual fallback ready.
Do not route a Laser Turret through a Drop Shield. The Drop Shield source states that its barrier blocks lasers from both sides.
Failure recovery
- The turret is inactive. Check whether the beam reaches the base crystal, then check power at the laser source.
- The turret activates but cannot engage. Remove firing-lane obstructions or change its angle.
- A beam is split repeatedly. Simplify the path; the turret needs one valid beam, not a complex light network.
- Defense fails when power is interrupted. Add a non-laser fallback rather than assuming the optical chain is always available.
Completion condition
The turret is commissioned when one beam reliably reaches the crystal, the enemy route is visible, friendly defenses do not block fire, and a fallback covers outages. Design the optical path before the room fills up
A direct emitter-to-crystal path is easier to inspect than a beam routed through several objects. Start with the simplest alignment that reaches the turret. Use a Prism only when room geometry requires redirection or when a planned optical network has another documented purpose. Extra complexity creates more places for furniture, doors, or later construction to interrupt the beam.
Mark the power-beam corridor as infrastructure. Storage crates and decorative objects should not be placed where they can block it. If the beam crosses a walking route, check it again after base changes instead of assuming the turret remains active because its electrical source still has power.
The target lane needs an equally deliberate check. Stand at the expected enemy entry and look toward the turret. Fixed walls, barricades, and portable shields can hide targets even when the turret is active. A turret that sees only the last meter of an approach has less time to work and can be reached before a fallback responds.
Document the final setup with three plain statements: which device creates the beam, what surface or path carries it to the crystal, and which approach the turret covers. Those notes make a failed defense diagnosable. If the turret stops, first verify the source, then the optical path, then the target lane; do not dismantle all three at once.
Recheck the lane after base changes
A working optical path can be broken by later construction even when the laser source remains powered. Treat the emitter-to-crystal corridor and the turret-to-target corridor as two separate protected spaces. A clear first corridor activates the turret; a clear second corridor allows it to engage.
After moving storage, barricades, shields, or other equipment, stand at both ends of each corridor and inspect the alignment again. The Drop Shield deserves a specific check because its sourced behavior blocks lasers from both sides. Do not place one in the firing lane merely because it improves projectile cover elsewhere.
For co-op bases, label the emitter or prism that supplies each turret. When a beam fails, one player can check the source while another checks the crystal and target lane. This reduces downtime and prevents an unrelated working optical network from being dismantled during troubleshooting.
