The Repair and Salvage Station has two distinct jobs: restore equipment that will return to service and break unwanted items into useful materials. Mixing those decisions at the last moment can destroy a needed backup or consume the materials reserved for a progression tool. A reliable workflow separates route equipment, backup equipment, salvage candidates, and uncertain items before any station action is taken.
The station source describes repairing vital equipment and scrapping unwanted items. The Progression Guide also identifies Duct Tape and the station as repair paths. Duct Tape is a field option, not a replacement for base maintenance: the Mechanics source states that a tape repair restores 5 durability. That exact, small repair is useful when it crosses a known return threshold, but it should not be presented as a full restoration.
Use this workflow before the portal expedition checklist or another long route. The goal is to leave with a dependable kit and a material floor, not merely with every damaged object repaired.

"Unwanted" must be a decision, not a visual judgment. An unfamiliar item, a damaged progression tool, or the only backup for a route is not automatically salvage. Place uncertain items in a small labeled container and check the current item or recipe source later. Salvage only after the role and replacement have been resolved.

- Write the next route objective and list the equipment it requires.
- Equip or place those items in a route staging area so they cannot be confused with general storage.

A field fix changes the immediate condition, not the maintenance classification. Mark the item for station review on return even if the route succeeded. Otherwise the next expedition begins with hidden damage.
Salvage without deleting your fallback
