Stun Baton upgrade and combat use: create a safe control window

Understand how the Stun Baton is obtained, what its electrical stun does, and how to use the opening without treating it as a universal damage upgrade.

Treat the Stun Baton as a control tool rather than a damage ranking. Source basis: the references listed on this page, checked for game version 1.4. This original planning diagram is not to scale and is not copied game or wiki media.

What the Stun Baton is for

The Stun Baton is an upgraded blunt melee weapon that applies an electrical stun, temporarily stopping an affected enemy from moving or attacking. Its value is the safe action created after contact: reposition, heal, switch weapon, or let a teammate attack. It should not be evaluated only by its listed damage.

Upgrade check

The item source states that the Stun Baton is obtained by upgrading. Check the current in-game upgrade recipe or source page before gathering components, because icon-based recipe rows and balance values can change.

  1. Confirm the base item and upgrade recipe in the current build.
  2. Repair and stage the weapon before entering a route where control matters.
  3. Identify whether the intended enemy can be affected by electricity.
  4. Decide what action the stun window will enable.
  5. Leave enough stamina and space to disengage if the effect does not occur.

Combat decision table

SituationBest use of the openingRisk to avoid
Single dangerous targetReposition or deliver a planned follow-upRepeating swings until stamina is empty
Co-op focus targetCall the stun and let teammates actEveryone crowding the same melee space
Route retreatBreak contact and move to coverTurning the retreat into another damage race
Unknown resistanceTest with an exit availableAssuming every enemy can be immobilized

Failure recovery

  • The target does not stop. Treat resistance or immunity as possible and disengage; verify the enemy source before the next attempt.
  • The stun lands but no follow-up was planned. Use the window to recover position rather than spending it on indecision.
  • Durability is low. Repair before relying on the baton as the route's only control option.
  • Multiple enemies surround the player. A single-target opening is not a substitute for a controlled approach lane.

Completion condition

The loadout is ready when the upgrade is verified, the target has been checked, and the player can name the follow-up and retreat. Compare enemy resistances in the damage-type guide and use the weapon progression guide when choosing the primary damage weapon that follows the stun.

Practice the control sequence safely

Use a familiar, recoverable encounter to learn the baton before depending on it in a new sector. Approach with enough stamina to strike and disengage. When the stun occurs, perform the selected follow-up once: move behind the target, create distance, heal, or switch to the primary weapon. The purpose of practice is to make that transition automatic, not to measure an undocumented duration.

In co-op, call the target before contact. One player creates the opening while the others remain outside the same melee space. If every player rushes the stunned enemy, the group can lose its escape route and expose itself when the target recovers. A clear call such as "stun, then withdraw" or "stun, focus this target" gives the weapon a defined role.

Keep an ordinary melee option available if electrical control is ineffective. The damage-type source should be checked for known weaknesses, resistances, or immunities, but an unfamiliar enemy still deserves a cautious first test. A missed swing, low durability, or target that ignores the effect should trigger the retreat plan immediately.

Evaluate the baton after the route, not during the fight. Record whether it created a useful opening, whether the follow-up fit within that opening, and whether its repair cost displaced a more important weapon. Those observations answer whether the baton belongs in that specific loadout without turning one successful encounter into a universal tier claim.

Decide when the baton should stay at base

The baton is a poor fit when the route is dominated by targets that do not respond usefully to electricity, when close contact is the main hazard, or when the player cannot reserve enough stamina to disengage. Check those conditions before using an inventory slot simply because the upgrade is available.

On a mixed route, define one target class or encounter where the baton will be used. Keep the primary weapon ready for everything else. This prevents the control tool from becoming an improvised answer to enemies that have not been checked against the Electricity and Weapon sources.

Repair state is part of the go/no-go decision. If the baton cannot remain available through the planned encounter, either repair it, shorten the task, or bring another control method. The guide does not promise a specific number of uses because durability and route conditions should be checked in the current build.

Common Mistakes

MistakeWhy it happensHow to avoid it
Swinging until stamina is goneStun feels powerful, so the player keeps attackingLand one hit, confirm the stun, then switch to your primary weapon
No follow-up planned before the fightPlayer expects to improvise after the stunDecide the action before engaging: reposition, heal, or call a teammate
Using the baton against electricity-resistant enemiesResistance was not checked beforehandRead the enemy source or test with a single cautious swing and an exit route
Entire co-op squad crowds the stunned targetEveryone reacts to the opening at onceOne player calls the stun; others hold their positions and cover
Carrying the baton on a route with no valid targetsUpgrade is available so it feels mandatoryCheck the route's enemy list; leave the baton at base if nothing responds to electricity
Ignoring durability before departureRepair bench is right there but gets skippedAdd a durability check to every pre-route loadout inspection
Treating the stun as a damage toolListed damage number looks decent on paperThe baton's value is the control window, not the hit itself
Chasing a target deeper to land the stunEnemy retreated and the player followsLet it go; chasing trades your positioning for a single stun attempt
