Night Realm route planner: four Security Sector visits
A source-linked route planner for the four Night Realm visits described by the Security Sector walkthrough, with checkpoints, exits, recovery choices, and later farming notes.
Original exploration decision
- Your task
- Night Realm visits need distinct objectives, checkpoints, and a return condition rather than one undirected route.
- What you can use
- Presents the Night Realm visits as a single SVG progression flowchart with route checkpoints, risks, and source-backed planning notes.
- Identify visit
- Follow visit route
- Break Nightsphere
- Exit to Security
Separate story progress from optional farming between visits. Source basis: the references listed on this page, checked for game version 1.4. These are planning checkpoints, not measured rankings or yes/no branches. Follow the linked tables and procedures for conditions, quantities and completion checks. Not to scale; not a game map.
The Night Realm is a dark mirror of the Security Sector. The Security Sector walkthrough divides progression into four visits that enter different parts of the same realm. Every visit has one job: break a Nightsphere, use the exit portal it opens, and return to the corresponding blocked route in Security.
The Reaper creates the gateways and can send a player into the realm, but it does not follow the player inside. The official Night Realm reference lists no hostile entities there. Shades are ambient figures, not combat targets. That distinction matters when packing: route visibility and inventory room are more useful inside than anti-Reaper weapons.
Full progression flowchart
Visit 1: The Courtyard
Entry: First orange portal in Security Sector
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Enter portal → arrive in courtyard |
| 2 | Turn around — see the ink pool (important for later farming) |
| 3 | Note the GATE power box (you can build a base here) |
| 4 | Look for Snag Vine Seeds (random spawn, slows enemies when planted) |
| 5 | Go through doorway behind/right of the power box |
| 6 | Climb stairs → pick up Night Essence on railing |
| 7 | Turn right → find the Nightsphere |
| 8 | Break the Nightsphere to open the exit |
| 9 | Portal opens below → go through to return to Security Sector |
Loot: Night Essence, Snag Vine Seed (random)
Visit 2: The Prison
Entry: Portal after clearing Storage Unit C's second floor
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Enter portal → arrive in prison area |
| 2 | Go left → open orange-button gate (creates shortcut back to ink pool) |
| 3 | Turn around → walk to far end of prison floor 1 |
| 4 | Find staircase next to GATE power generator |
| 5 | Climb stairs → see cages with shadow creatures |
| 6 | Check cage with blue crate → Magnetic Alloy (first renewable source!) |
| 7 | Go to far side of floor 2 → Nightsphere on pedestal |
| 8 | Break the Nightsphere |
| 9 | Portal opens on far side → exit to Security Sector |
Documented pickup: The blue crate in a second-floor cage contains Magnetic Alloy, described by the cited walkthrough as the first renewable piece in a Portal World. Night Essence exists elsewhere in the realm, but that walkthrough does not place a separate pickup on this prison route. Do not delay the Nightsphere objective to search for one here.
Visit 3: The Vine Wall
Entry: Portal after completing the Fitness Course area
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Enter portal → new area adjacent to prison |
| 2 | Open gate in front of you → connects to prison area |
| 3 | Go left → find wall of red vines |
| 4 | Climb the red vines |
| 5 | Turn right, then left → large open room |
| 6 | Unlock gate to the left (another shortcut) |
| 7 | Break the Nightsphere |
| 8 | Portal appears → exit to Security Sector |
Pickup boundary: The cited walkthrough confirms the red-vine climb and Nightsphere route but does not place a Sensor or Night Essence pickup on this third visit. Collect any resource you can actually see, without making an unverified pickup a condition for leaving through the exit portal.
Visit 4: The Deep Realm
Entry: Final portal in Security Sector progression
This is the largest and most confusing section.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Enter portal → most expansive area yet |
| 2 | Walk straight → unlock door |
| 3 | Go up stairs → unlock second door (shortcut to previous areas) |
| 4 | Backtrack → find path to left near half-buried GATE generator |
| 5 | Walk ahead → open barred gate (connects to Visit 1 starting area) |
| 6 | In same corridor → take path on right |
| 7 | See ramp up (left) and jail door (right) → open jail door; the walkthrough places Night Essence and a long blue crate inside |
| 8 | Continue to the large button-operated door; after opening it, check the metal-edged wooden crate to the left for Sensors and Kevlar Scrap, then look for yellow paint beside the route |
| 9 | Follow the painted turn up the ramp and build the three bridges needed to cross the gaps |
| 10 | Continue past the GATE laptop and Dr. Cahn's Shade to the throne room |
| 11 | Destroy the final Nightsphere to open the portal |
| 12 | Exit through the portal to continue Security Sector progression |
Key tip: Open the gates along this route when reachable. They connect back to earlier areas and can shorten later return trips, but the gaps near the painted turn still require bridges.
Documented pickups: The four-visit walkthrough places Night Essence behind the jail door and a Sensors/Kevlar Scrap crate near the large button-operated door on this final route. Treat these as optional pickups: crossing the bridges and breaking the last Nightsphere remain the progression objective.
Night Realm resources
| Resource | Location | Renewable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night Essence | Environment pickups; possible Inkfish butcher result | Check again after a Portal World reset | Core Night Realm material |
| Inkfish | Ink well in the first area | Fish can be caught without the Night Helmet | Butchering always gives filet, Fish Oil, and Fish Bones; Black Oil and Night Essence are chance results |
| Sable Inkfish | Same ink well | Requires the Night Helmet to appear in the fishing pool | Rare Inkfish variant |
| Snag Vine Seed | Environment item in the realm | Check after a Portal World reset | Bank at least one before using extras |
| Security equipment | Possible fishing result from the ink well | Repeatable fishing target | Can be processed as a source of Kevlar Scrap |
| Defense and Security Wood Crates | Resource nodes around the realm | Recheck after reset | General route loot rather than the primary progression objective |
Night Realm farming (post-story)
After progression opens the connected areas, the Night Realm can support a quiet collection and fishing trip. Keep this separate from Reaper farming: the Reaper remains in the Security Sector, while the route below takes place inside the enemy-free Night Realm.
Fishing and collection loop
Start at the ink well in the first area. Collect visible Night Essence and Snag Vine Seeds before fishing so the return trip is not interrupted by a full inventory. The official Night Realm page identifies three working outlets, one beside the ink well, which makes this the simplest place in the realm to power a small staging area or a teleporter-linked workbench.
Ordinary Inkfish can appear without bait. Wearing the Night Helmet acts as the condition for the rare Sable Inkfish variant; it is not required to cast into the well or catch the ordinary fish. The broader fishing table also includes Portal Fish and IS-0098 in the no-bait pool, so not every catch will be an Inkfish.
Butcher Inkfish at a Chef's Counter after returning to a suitable base. The official Inkfish table lists two Raw Inkfish Filets, one Fish Oil, and one Fish Bones as guaranteed outputs. Black Oil has a 40% chance and Night Essence has a 25% chance. Those percentages describe each butcher result, not a guaranteed yield for a fixed number of fish. Plan a trip around catches and inventory space rather than promising a precise material total.
| Goal | Bring | Stop condition |
|---|---|---|
| Progression | A weapon or tool that can break the Nightsphere, plus a light | Exit as soon as the sphere opens the portal |
| Ordinary Inkfish | Fishing Rod and open inventory slots | Leave when fish or junk fills the planned space |
| Sable Inkfish | Fishing Rod plus equipped Night Helmet | Stop when helmet or general supplies no longer support the trip |
| Base staging | Materials for the intended bench and power layout | Confirm the outlet beside the well before placing the full setup |
| Environment collection | Minimal combat loadout and storage room | Leave after the known pickups are collected |
Portal World resources are checked again after a reset, but a player remaining inside can interfere with reset behavior. Use the game's current reset notice and the site's Portal Reset Planner as a checklist; do not substitute a real-world timezone for the server's in-game schedule.
Equipment checklist
| Item | Required? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Night Helmet | Only for targeting Sable Inkfish | Acts as the rare-variant bait condition |
| Fishing Rod | Only for a fishing trip | Catch ordinary Inkfish and other fish in the ink well |
| Light source | Helpful | Dark environment |
| Open inventory slots | Recommended | Carry fish, resource pickups, and fishing junk |
| Damage-capable tool | Required for progression visits | Break the Nightsphere that opens the exit portal |
| Diving Suit | Optional, separate objective | Required to reach the IS-0059 Sigil under the well |
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Getting lost in Visit 4 | Largest area, no clear markers | Unlock every gate — they're all shortcuts |
| Forgetting to open gates | Rushing to the node | Gates connect all 4 areas, making farming easy later |
| Treating Shades as enemies | Their appearance suggests a fight | Leave them alone; the realm has no hostile entities |
| Wearing the Night Helmet for every fishing cast | Rare and ordinary Inkfish rules were mixed together | Use it when targeting Sable Inkfish, not as a requirement for ordinary Inkfish |
| Expecting Black Oil from every Inkfish | A chance output was read as guaranteed | Plan around the official 40% butcher chance |
| Waiting for a Reaper inside | Security and Night Realm behavior were mixed together | Finish the Nightsphere or fishing objective and return through the portal |
| Building before checking power | The realm appears safe enough to settle immediately | Verify one of the three working outlets, especially the one beside the well |
