The Problem
You found a portal activator and have six worlds to pick from. No labels, no warnings. You stepped into the wrong one at Day 8 and lost an hour of progress to a one-hit kill. Now every portal looks like a gamble.
The Solution
Portal worlds follow a strict difficulty curve tied to your gear and day count. This tier list tells you exactly which world to enter, when to enter it, and what to bring.
Quick Tier List
| Rank | World | Difficulty | Earliest Safe Day | Top Loot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Void Expanse | Extreme | Day 35 | Transuranic Superalloy, Digital Gold |
| A | Night Realm | Hard | Day 20 | Night Essence, Leyak Essence |
| A | Flathill | Hard | Day 20 | Power Cells, Anomaly Materials |
| B | Rise | Medium | Day 12 | Healer Mite Egg, Anteverse Wheat |
| B | Train World | Medium | Day 12 | Steel Cable, Industrial Battery Parts |
| C | Mycofields | Easy | Day 5 | Glow Bug Egg, Spore Pup Egg, Mushrooms |
Rank reflects danger-to-reward ratio at the recommended progression stage. S tier has the best loot but will kill unprepared players in seconds.
Mycofields — C Tier (Easy)
Enter on Day 5. Leave by Day 12 unless farming mushrooms.
Mycofields is the tutorial portal world. The creatures here are passive unless you swing first. The only lethal hazard is the fire zone near the central mushroom cluster, and you can walk around it.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Passive mushroom creatures (no aggro unless attacked) |
| Hazards | Fire zones near central cluster |
| Radiation | None |
| Key Loot | Glow Bug Egg, Spore Pup Egg, rare mushroom varieties |
| Run Time | 3-5 minutes for a full loop |
| Gear Needed | Starting clothes, any melee weapon for emergencies |
Why bother with an easy world? Companion eggs. The Glow Bug Egg gives you a passive light source that never runs out of battery. The Spore Pup Egg gives you a combat companion that scales into mid-game. Both spawn reliably in Mycofields and nowhere else at this stage.
Mushrooms here also fuel early cooking recipes. Grab everything. You will burn through mushroom soups faster than you think.
Mycofields route: Enter portal, go left along the outer wall, loop clockwise past three mushroom clusters, check the two egg spawn points near the waterfall, exit. Takes 4 minutes.
Train World — B Tier (Medium)
Enter after crafting Basic Armor and an Energy Pistol. Day 12 minimum.
Train World introduces real danger in the form of moving train cars. Contact with a moving car is instant death regardless of armor. The cars follow fixed tracks on a repeating timer.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Rail Drones (150 HP), Conductor Bot (300 HP, rare) |
| Hazards | Moving train cars (instant kill on contact) |
| Radiation | None |
| Key Loot | Steel Cable, Rebar, Industrial Battery components |
| Run Time | 5-8 minutes |
| Gear Needed | Basic Armor, Energy Pistol, 3 Healing Syringes |
Rail Drones patrol the platforms between tracks. They take 3-4 Energy Pistol shots each. The Conductor Bot is a rare spawn on the central platform. It hits hard at 300 HP but drops high-value Industrial Battery components.
Train timing: Cars pass every 12-15 seconds on each track. Stand at the edge, count one full pass, then cross immediately after the car clears. Do not sprint across two tracks at once. Cross one, pause, cross the next.
Steel Cable is the main draw. You need it for mid-game crafting bench upgrades, power grid wiring, and several weapon recipes. Train World is the most efficient source.
Rise — B Tier (Medium)
Enter after reaching Crafting Tier 3 with mid-tier healing. Day 12-18.
Rise is a vertical world built on floating platforms connected by bridges and jump pads. The number one killer here is fall damage, not enemies. Missed jumps send you plummeting, and fall damage scales fast.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Floating Sentinels (200 HP, energy attacks) |
| Hazards | Fall damage from platforms, energy barrier fields |
| Radiation | Light (0.5 rads/s in select areas) |
| Key Loot | Healer Mite Egg, Anteverse Wheat Seeds, rare herbs |
| Run Time | 5-10 minutes |
| Gear Needed | Basic Armor, ranged weapon, 5 Healing Syringes |
Sentinels hover and fire energy bolts. They have 200 HP and go down to 5-6 Energy Pistol shots at range. Do not try melee on floating platforms. One knockback puts you over the edge.
The Healer Mite Egg is the big prize. It spawns on high platforms near the exit portal. The Healer Mite companion regenerates your HP passively — one of the strongest companions in the game. Worth multiple runs to get.
Anteverse Wheat Seeds let you grow alien wheat at your base for high-tier cooking recipes. Grab them on your first run and start farming immediately.
Rise route: Enter, take the left bridge to the second platform tier. Clear Sentinels from range. Jump pad up to the third tier. Check the three herb nodes and the egg spawn near the exit. Drop down carefully (use ledges, not free-fall). Exit.
Night Realm — A Tier (Hard)
Do not enter before Day 20. Stealth preparation is mandatory.
The Night Realm is total darkness. Your instinct is to turn on a flashlight. That instinct will kill you. Flashlights double the detection range of Reapers, the primary threat here. Reapers have 800 HP, deal 120 damage per hit, and move at 1.5x your sprint speed. You cannot outrun them. You cannot out-DPS them without endgame weapons.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Reapers (800 HP, 120 dmg), Phantoms (300 HP) |
| Hazards | Total darkness, Reaper detection cones |
| Radiation | None |
| Key Loot | Night Essence, Leyak Essence, Guard Beetle Egg (rare) |
| Run Time | 2-3 minutes (stealth), 5-8 minutes (combat) |
| Gear Needed | Light Armor, Night Vision Soup, no flashlight |
Night Essence and Leyak Essence fuel mid-to-late game crafting recipes. You will need dozens of each. The Night Realm is the only reliable source.
Approach this world as a stealth zone. Crouch-walk the entire time. Craft Night Vision Soup before entering so you can see without a flashlight. Keep runs to 2-3 minutes. Grab essences, get out. Longer stays increase Reaper spawn frequency.
See the dedicated Night Realm Reaper Avoidance Guide for full detection mechanics and stealth routes.
Flathill — A Tier (Hard)
Requires mid-game weapons and radiation protection. Day 20-30.
Flathill is half combat, half puzzle. The Power Cell loop (collect cells, insert into generators, unlock doors, collect better cells) gates progression through the world. Bring radiation protection. The core areas hit 1-2 rads/s.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Flathill Guardians (500 HP), Energy Turrets (stationary) |
| Hazards | Timed power puzzles, energy barriers, radiation |
| Radiation | Moderate (1-2 rads/s in core areas) |
| Key Loot | Power Cells, Anomaly Materials, rare crafting components |
| Run Time | 10-15 minutes |
| Gear Needed | Mid-game Armor, Energy Pistol Mk II, Hazmat Helmet |
Guardians hit hard at 500 HP each. Energy Turrets are stationary but deal sustained damage if you stand in their line of fire. Move between cover. Turrets cannot rotate faster than you can strafe.
The Power Cell loop requires planning. Pick up a cell, carry it to the nearest generator, insert it, grab the next cell from the unlocked room. Repeat until you reach the core. Dropping a cell resets the timer on its generator. Do not drop cells.
Flathill loot includes anomaly materials used in endgame crafting recipes that nothing else provides. Worth the radiation risk if you bring Hazmat gear.
Void Expanse — S Tier (Extreme)
Endgame only. Full endgame gear required. Day 35 minimum.
Void Expanse is the hardest portal world in the game. Everything here wants to kill you. Void damage ticks constantly, gravity anomalies pull you into hazards, and the enemies have 1000+ HP.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemies | Void Walkers (1000 HP), Void Titan (2000 HP, mini-boss) |
| Hazards | Constant void damage, gravity anomalies, darkness |
| Radiation | Heavy (3-5 rads/s throughout the entire world) |
| Key Loot | Transuranic Superalloy, Digital Gold, Frozen Essence |
| Run Time | 10-20 minutes |
| Gear Needed | Full endgame Armor, Deatomizer, Pentetic Acid, all buffs |
Transuranic Superalloy only drops here and in the Reactor zone. Digital Gold is exclusive to Void Expanse. These are the rarest crafting materials in the game, used for the final tier of weapons and armor.
Void Walkers take 8-10 Deatomizer shots to kill. Void Titans are mini-bosses at 2000 HP. They charge at you and deal area damage on impact. Keep distance, kite around pillars, and burn them down with sustained fire.
Bring Pentetic Acid for radiation management. Stack every buff you have: Combat Rations, Energy Drinks, radiation resistance food. You will burn through healing items fast. Pack at least 10 Healing Syringes and 5 Pentetic Acid doses per run.
Void Expanse tip: The gravity anomalies pull you toward purple-glowing zones. Strafe perpendicular to the pull direction to escape. Getting caught in one drops you into a void pit for 200+ damage.
Recommended Progression Path
Follow this order for first-time portal visits. Each step assumes you have the gear from the previous stage.
| Order | Day Range | World | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Day 5-8 | Mycofields | Companion eggs, mushroom stockpile |
| 2 | Day 12-15 | Train World | Steel Cable, industrial materials |
| 3 | Day 14-18 | Rise | Anteverse Wheat Seeds, Healer Mite Egg |
| 4 | Day 20-25 | Night Realm | Night Essence, Leyak Essence (stealth runs) |
| 5 | Day 22-30 | Flathill | Power Cells, anomaly materials |
| 6 | Day 35+ | Void Expanse | Transuranic Superalloy, Digital Gold |
Loot Priority by Stage
What you need changes as your base and gear evolve. Match your portal runs to your current bottleneck.
| Stage | Bottleneck | Best Portal | Runs Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early (Day 1-10) | Food, companions, basic materials | Mycofields | 2-3 |
| Mid-early (Day 10-18) | Steel Cable, seeds, crafting bench upgrades | Train World, Rise | 3-5 each |
| Mid (Day 18-30) | Essences, Power Cells, anomaly materials | Night Realm, Flathill | 5-10 each |
| Late (Day 30+) | Superalloy, Digital Gold, Frozen Essence | Void Expanse | 10+ |
Portal Farming Tips
- Loot containers in portal worlds respawn every 15-20 real-time minutes. Run a portal, go back to base, craft, then run it again.
- Dying in a portal world drops all items you picked up inside. Your pre-entry inventory stays safe.
- Portal activators require Power Cells to operate. Keep a stockpile of 5+ cells at your base. Running out of cells locks you out.
- Co-op runs are more efficient. One player draws aggro while the other loots. Works especially well in Night Realm and Void Expanse.
- Each portal world has a fixed exit portal location. Learn where it is on your first run so you always have an escape route.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Why It Happens | How to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Entering Night Realm before Day 20 | Curiosity, drawn by loot descriptions | Wait until you have Night Vision Soup and Light Armor |
| Skipping Mycofields entirely | Assumes easy world has no value | Companion eggs are useful through endgame |
| No radiation protection in Flathill | Forgot to check hazard list | Bring Hazmat Helmet minimum for core areas |
| Void Expanse without Deatomizer | Underestimates 1000 HP enemies | You need endgame DPS or you die slowly |
| Ignoring train car timing | Assumes cars move randomly | Cars follow fixed 12-15 second cycles per track |
| Bringing flashlight to Night Realm | Thinks they need light to see | Night Vision Soup replaces flashlights without detection penalty |
